Project overview

Making the scale of clean energy tangible.

Noor Energy 1 is a 950 MW hybrid solar project within Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, combining concentrated solar power and photovoltaic technologies to provide renewable energy day and night.

For its Visitors Centre, we produced and directed an immersive VR film that takes audiences through the extraordinary scale of the site and inside the technologies that make it work.

Real drone cinematography was combined with CGI and experienced through a dedicated multisensory pod — transforming an enormous, highly technical infrastructure project into something visitors could see, understand and physically feel.

The Experience

Commissioned by Experience (Un)real as part of the wider Noor Energy 1 Visitors Centre project, we developed the mixed-reality film around a SENSIKS sensory pod, synchronizing the virtual journey with physical effects including heat, airflow and scent.

As visitors moved through the solar park in VR, changes in the environment could also be felt around them — from the warmth of the desert sun to moving air and atmospheric sensory cues.

The result was designed not simply to show visitors Noor Energy 1, but to create the sensation of flying through the solar plant.

A record-breaking view

During aerial production at Noor Energy 1, we captured the central solar tower rising above its field of heliostats.

One of those images was later featured in Guinness World Records 2025, documenting the project’s record for the world’s tallest concentrated solar power tower at 263.126 metres.

The image became an unexpected extension of the project — moving from production capture to a globally recognized record publication.

Outcome

The Noor Energy 1 experience gave visitors a way to move beyond diagrams and displays and step inside the scale and technology of the solar project.

Combining cinematic aerial capture, CGI and synchronized sensory effects helped make an otherwise inaccessible infrastructure project more immediate, understandable and memorable.

The experience became part of the wider Visitor Centre, which has since welcomed thousands of visitors, organized delegations and events from across government, education, industry and the energy sector.
